'Ruminants swallow the food without chewing. After feeding, they bring the food from the stomach back into the mouth and chew it leisurely. This process is called rumination and such animals are called as ruminants. Rumination is also called second chewing. Grass is rich in a carbohydrate called cellulose (which acts a source of energy). The cellulose carbohydrate present in grass can be digested by the action of certain bacteria which are present only in the stomach of animals called ruminants like cattle (cows, buffaloes) goat, sheep, deer, antelope, giraffe Amoeba feeds on microscopic organisms such as single-celled algae and bacteria. When the amoeba encounters a suitable organism, the cytoplasm flows round the prey and engulfs it, with a drop of water, in a food vacuole. The cytoplasm secretes enzymes into the food vacuole. Nutrition in an amoeba occurs through a process called phagocytosis where the entire organism pretty much engulfs the food it plans on eating up. The mode of nutrition in amoeba is known as holozoic nutrition. It involves the ingestion, digestion and egestion of food material through contractile vacuole'
